Picnic Perfect

The weather in NYC is perfect for a quaint little picnic with the family and friends. And picnics are the perfect occasion to wear flowy summer dresses and carry adorable wicker basket tote bags, such as this Chanel purse. Picnics are entirely full of fun: there’s scrumptious food, usually a beautiful nature-filled scenery, all of your close friends and family, and sometimes even games! Sounds so darlingly flawless, doesn’t it? But I think to make it enjoyable, you have to be comfortable, and what could be more comfortable than a breezy tea dress?

These sundresses, both smashing and bold colored, would be great for a picnic day. On the other hand, Christopher Kane’s Spring 2010 line is very basic colored, but nevertheless stunning. Every one of these dresses have one thing in common: the gingham checkered pattern, which is a typical pattern for a picnic blanket.

Three reasons why I would wear these dresses to a picnic

1) Their length

2) The design of each dress

3) The breeziness

She & Him + 102˚

Oh how I love the month of July. . .especially since today happened to be 102˚ F! Regardless, I spent my late afternoon/evening at a lovely She & Him concert @ Terminal 5. Arriving at around 6 o’clock, my brother, my friend, and I waited to see the show for at least 3 hours (a little ridiculous but completely worth the wait!) Besides the spectacular performance, the outfits the lead singer, Zooey Deschanel, and the backup singers, the Chapin sisters, wore were almost as memorable. Zooey was wearing a periwinkle blue 60s-ish dress. One of the Chapin sisters was wearing a mini floral dress, and the other was wearing a lacey white dress with grey tights. Everything about the performance was delightful; the attire was just the cherry on top. The only bad thing about the concert was the incapability to take pictures, yet I took a blurry one anyway.

On the other hand, some of the concert goers had on interesting choices for outfits. Example #1, three people were dressed as Athenian gods… Example #2, a girl, who was at least 19 was carrying a hot pink cupcake backpack on her chest. And her friend was wearing frilly socks with Mary Jane’s, in this scorching weather! How could you not wear sandals when it’s more than 100˚ outside?

P.S. The veggie dogs, from Asiadog, served on the rooftop deck at Terminal 5 were delicious.

Happy Fourth of July!

NYC is one big ghost town when it comes to this day. Most people have little parties or barbecues to celebrate America’s independence. I had brunch with my family, and later had dinner with friends, ending the evening with Pinkberry. Special, I must admit… The outfits people wear for this occasion is the only reason why I love this day! I spotted a man whose outfit resembled a sailor’s: blue & white striped tee-shirt, red jean shorts, white Keds, and to top it off, a white sailor cap. How patriotic!

Some designers choose to incorporate this red, white, and blue theme into their creations. An American flag dress, made by Catherine Malandrino which has been worn by famous women including Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, Meryl Streep, and Madonna is one example that is hard to miss. Although I personally would never wear such a bold dress, I have to say that this dress looks beautiful on every one of these inspiring women. This dress was also shown during Barbie’s 50th anniversary in 2009.

Marc Jacobs, who is known for creating very bold and unique collections has also made a certain collection of patriotic shoes.

And I love them all!

Me, on the other hand, I was not dressed in a festive outfit, except for the hint of navy on my blouse. July 4th evening at Pinkberry, before the boom of the fireworks began.
